Lewandowski won’t be absent from the El Clásico against Real Madrid

The Pole was booked for time wasting against Las Palmas, leading to suggestions he deliberately tried to get a yellow card.

In the 1-0 win over Las Palmas last weekend, Robert Lewandowski was given a yellow card by referee Mateo Busquets in the 81st minute for intentionally wasting time when leaving the field as a substitute. Notably, this is the Polish striker’s 5th yellow card in La Liga this season.

Many Spanish newspapers said that Lewandowski intentionally erased the card. The Barca striker is suspended for the match against Cadiz on April 13 but will return in the Super Classic match against Real Madrid on April 21.

According to La Liga rules, if a player is accused of card erasing, he will be suspended for 2 matches instead of 1 match. Fortunately for Barca, Lewandowski was not prosecuted for this crime.

Specifically, according to Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga disciplinary committee did not receive a written report from referee Mateo Busquets, so there is not enough basis to charge Lewandowski with card-washing. That means the Polish striker is only suspended for the match against Cadiz on April 13. He will return in El Clasico match a week later.

In addition to Robert Lewandowski, two other Barca players, Joao Cancelo and Inigo Martinez, were also suspended in the match against Cadiz for accumulating enough yellow cards. And all three are ready to play in El Clasico.

Currently, Barca is ranked 2nd on the La Liga rankings with 67 points, 8 points behind top team Real Madrid. Xavi and his team must defeat Los Blancos in El Clasico on April 21 to keep their hopes of winning the championship alive.

Before entering El Clasico with rival Real Madrid, Barca will play two Champions League quarter-finals with PSG on April 10 and 17.
